Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Wooden spoon or silicone spatula
  • Small bowl
  • Clean glass jar

Ingredients

  • cup raw cane sugar
  • cup honey
  • ¾ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ¾ cup apple juice
  • cups prepared barbecue sauce

Instructions

Measure the Ingredients

  • Start by measuring the raw sugar, honey, cayenne pepper, apple juice, and barbecue sauce. Having everything ready makes the sauce much easier to prepare.

Warm the Apple Juice

  • Pour the apple juice into a medium saucepan. Add the raw sugar and cayenne pepper, then warm over low heat. Stir gently until the sugar starts to melt into the juice.

Stir in the honey.

  • Add the honey to the warm mixture and stir until it blends in smoothly. Keep the heat low and continue stirring for a minute or two.

Add the Barbecue Sauce

  • Pour the prepared barbecue sauce into the saucepan. Stir well to bring all the ingredients together, then let the sauce reach a gentle simmer.

Simmer and Cool

  • Let the sauce cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring from time to time. It should become slightly thicker and glossy. Take the pan off the heat and let the sauce cool before pouring it into a clean jar.
